Mount Rushmore Hall of Records

Mount Rushmore Hall of Records. According to the National Park Service, "this repository was intended to tell the story of Mount Rushmore and of the United States. After the United States Congress threatened to cut off all funding for the project unless used specifically to finish the sculpture itself, Borglum reluctantly stopped work on the hall in 1939." Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota. Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60 foot sculptures of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Mount Rushmore has become an iconic symbol of the United States, and attracts over three million visitors annually. Photographed by Amy Bracewell, undated.
