Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, Rome, Italy, seen here in the 19th century. Founded in 324 it was rebuilt in the late 16th century after its deterioration in the middle ages. The interior was renovated in the late 17th century, and its façade was completed in 1735. Designed by architect Alessandro Galilei it is of Baroque, Neoclassical style. From Les Plus Belles Eglises du Monde, published 1861.
