Terracotta jug

Terracotta jug. Culture: Roman, Asia Minor, Tarsus. Dimensions: H. 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm). Date: 1st half of 1st century A.D..
This jug is attributed to one of the workshops producing lead-glazed vessels at Tarsus in southeast Asia Minor. Most of the production was devoted to making drinking cups, and this is a rare example of a different shape that was clearly much influenced by contemporary metalwork.
