Silk map used as a pilot's scarf, Silk map from the British Air Force (RAF). The fabric is printed on both sides with the maps, 44 A and 44 B of Burma, part of French Indo China, part of Siam, now Thailand, part of India and part of China. The silk maps were intended for pilots and crew members of the RAF. The material made them light, resistant to water and the humid climate in general. This housecoat was made in Indonesia by Mrs Terwen de Loos from silk maps which were popular for making clothes after the liberation due to the textile shortage. This additional donation gives a good idea of the original function of the silk maps., maker: anonymous, Royal Air Force, 1940 - 1945, silk, length 94 cm × width 59 cm.
