Alfred Neubauer with Juan Manuel Fangio and his wife, c1954-c1955. Neubauer is congratulating Fangio on successful practice in Rheims, France. Neubauer was the highly successful manager of the Mercedes-Benz motor racing team, for whom Fangio drove in the 1954 and 1955 Grand Prix seasons. In his Formula 1 career between 1950 and 1958, Fangio won a then record 24 Grands Prix, 8 of them while with Mercedes, and won the World Drivers' Championship in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957, a record which remains unequalled. The most remarkable aspect of Fangio's record is that these successes came from a career which only lasted for 51 races.
