Jason and the Argonauts sail through the Symplegades (Clashing Rocks). Engraving depicting Jason and the Argonuats from 'Tableaux du temple des muses' (1655) by Michel de Marolles (1600 - 1681), known as the abbe de Marolles; a French churchman and translator. The Argonauts were a band of heroes in Greek mythology, who in the years before the Trojan War, around 1300 BC, accompanied Jason to Colchis in his quest to find the Golden Fleece.
