Joseph Goebbels

Joseph Goebbels, who entered the Reichstag as one of the first twelve National Socialists, became Reich Minister of Propaganda on the 14th of March in 1933, the day of the seizure of power by the Nazis. He was responsible for the burning of books on the 10th of May in 1933, organised the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses and prepared the "Kristallnacht" ("Crystal Night") on the 10th of November in 1938. He spoke out for "Total War" in his infamous speech in the Sportpalast of Berlin in February in 1943. Shortly before the capitulation, he killed his six children, his wife Magda and himself with pistol and poison on the 1st of May in 1945. The dead bodies were covered with petrole and burnt by his adjutant in the garden of the Chancellery of the Reich, but could be identified by the Soviets. Goebbels was born on the 29th of October in 1897 in Rheydt. 30/11/1999
