Hatra, Iraq. Vertical aerial photograph showing the ancient Parthian city. A Hellenistic foundation by the Seleucid Empire probably in the 3rd century BC. It went on to become a major centre of the Parthian Empire, withstanding attacks by Rome before being overrun and destroyed by the Seleucid Persians in 241 CE.
