EBENEZER LANDELLS. The Seven Mountains and Drachenfels, from Godenberg,1845. Creator: Ebenezer Landells.

EBENEZER LANDELLS. The Seven Mountains and Drachenfels, from Godenberg, 1845. 'The village of Godenberg [in Germany] is one of the most charming places of summer residence on the Rhine; and its Castle Keep, on the summit of the hill, commands one of the most beautiful prospects on the river. The group of hills called the Seven Mountains, in reality, are more than seven in number, and form a grand commencement to the beautiful scenery of the Rhine; they are the highest and wildest hills on its banks...the loftiest, Owelberg, is 1453 feet high. The most interesting of the whole group, from its shape and position, but more than all from the verses of Byron, is the famed Drachenfels (Dragon Rock), whose precipices rise abruptly from the river-side, crowned with a ruin...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
