Vitamin Donut

In the 1920s, key vitamins were identified that contribute to human health. FDA remained, at least until the advent of WWII, extremely skeptical, not of the vitamins themselves, but of the premature claims made for them. FDA developed a rational program for food enrichment upheld by the courts. In 1924 the Supreme Court ruled that the Food and Drugs Act condemns every statement, design, or device on a product's label that may mislead or deceive, even if technically true.
