Ryounkaku Tower

[ 1890s Japan - Ryounkaku Tower in Asakusa, Tokyo ] Ryounkaku () at Asakusa Park at Tokyo, Japans very first skyscraper, better known as Asakusa Junikai (, Asakusa Twelve Stories). Designed by Scottish engineer W. K. Burton, the tower was completed in 1890 (Meiji 23). It housed Japans first electric elevator. This image was published in 1895 (Meiji 28) by Kazumasa Ogawa in Scenes of the Eastern Capital of Japan. 19th century vintage collotype print.
