The gorge runs between the municipalities of Ardales, Álora and Antequera, next to the village and the El Chorro reservoir. There is a three-kilometer-long path that was built for maintenance workers to access the El Chorro reservoir, hanging from the walls of the gorge. King Alfonso XIII visited it in 1921 and since then it began to be known as Caminito del Rey, recently restored.
