Some tree frogs build mud shelters that look like small pools. In one South American species, the male constructs a circular pool about 30 centimeters in diameter, surrounded by a low wall 10 centimeters high. The couple deposits its eggs in the pool, where they are safe from predators unable to scale the wall of mud.
