ANONYMOUS, BRITISH, 18TH CENTURY. The Junto in a Bowl Dish

The Junto in a Bowl Dish. Artist: Anonymous, British, 18th century. Dimensions: plate: 8 7/8 x 12 5/8 in. (22.5 x 32 cm)
sheet: 11 x 16 3/4 in. (27.9 x 42.5 cm). Publisher: Published London by William Richardson (British, active 1778-1812). Date: February 11, 1781.
In this satire, British ministers--probably Thurlow, Bute, Loughborough, Sandwich, North, Jenkinson and Mansfield--float in a large bowl watched over by a cat-like monster. Dogs with collars lettered "America," "France," and "Spain" swim towards them while, on the shore in the foreground, a thin greyhound representing Scotland gnaws on England.
